As part of our accessible seas trips, we took out

As part of our accessible seas trips, we took out someone visiting family today to help survey what's happening with our wildlife. Grey and harbour seals back on regular haul.outs. Razorbills, black guillemot and shags showing in big numbers and breeding plumage. Sea eagles back in nesting area so hopefully good news. And common dolphin in Loch Broom again. Sunshine helped make it nice too!

he really low spring tides yesterday provided a great opportunity

The really low spring tides yesterday provided a great opportunity to test out Hunter’s magnetic fishing kit! We didn’t actually manage to find anything, but it was fun picking interesting locations and trying them out - and it led to some great chat about what ends up in the sea and why, and what impact different substances have on our marine environment….. 🤔 Also an opportunity to brush up on some boat handling skills…. new sea saver Harris is a natural!

The low tide yesterday let is look at some of what lives at the pontoons

The low tide yesterday let is look at some of what lives at the pontoons. Lots of these red squirms, some sea urchins (meant to be a good sign of decent water quality!), limpets, whelk eggs and even a spiney (squat lobster)

Blue skies and calm seas mean that we have a WHOLE lot of creel sessions

Blue skies and calm seas mean that we have a WHOLE lot of creel sessions planned for this week!! Amazing to see how much growth there is on the ropes already - spring is definitely springing in our amazing local seas...  Some pics from the first two trips yesterday.

Thank you so much to everyone who helps to make these trips possible. If you're in Ullapool Tesco, please remember to #VoteForTheBoat!

Between creel trips, noel managed a wee access trip up Lochside

Tilda and Edie met with Rhiannon from Youth Highland yesterday

Tilda and Edie met with Rhiannon from Youth Highland yesterday to feed into a consultation exploring whether young people think that the Scottish The Scottish Government's newly released draft plan for transport is right and fair. Great to see such an effort being made to make sure young highland voices are being heard in consultations like these! The draft plan can be found here: https://www.gov.scot/.../transition-draft-transition.../ There is an easy-read version: https://www.gov.scot/publications/transition-draft-transition-plan-transport-scotland-easy-read-version/

Some solid Drain Campaign work down at the harbour yesterday!

(The paint we use is biodegradable chalk, so the message fades in time and we need to pop down and re-do them regularly.) One of the great things about this wee campaign is how far it is spreading and inspiring other kids around the country - some of them down near Glasgow made a great wee film about it.
