Gorgeous day for our big #futureroutes beach clean at Leckmelm!

So lucky to have had such a gorgeous day for our big #futureroutes beach clean at Leckmelm! Huge thanks to everyone that came along and helped out, and thanks also to The Bothy for sending along some delicious cakes to keep us all fuelled up for the afternoon! We're really grateful to Lucy Beattie for hosting us and providing everything we could possibly need - what a treat to do a clean with so much logistical support! We got a lot gathered in, but sadly more is constantly being washed in, so Lucy has set up a wee beach clean station at the farm buildings. She would welcome anyone that fancies a wee walk and beach clean to make use of it. 😀👌 As ever, if you have places locally that you'd like to see getting a wee clean up, or if we can help by uplifting in the boat stuff you've cleaned yourself, please let us know.

Polystyrene and a load of buoys hauled off Fada today

Big lump of polystyrene and a load of buoys hauled off Fada today as part of a bigger clean up. Really satisfying to see all those microplastics safely disposed of in Ullapool Harbour’s Fishing For Litter skip.

Mada Chuain to Rhue to collect edie and gillie’s big bag of rubbish

Really glad of a weather window so soon to get out in Mada Chuain to rhue to collect edie and gillie’s big bag of rubbish from the new beach clean station! ☀️👌🩵 Work like this is where the drop down bow on our fab wee PionerMulti really comes into its own. Thanks, as ever, to Fishing For Litter and Ullapool Harbour Trust for providing the facilities for us to dispose of the rubbish.

Edie and Gillies were hard at work on the shore at Rhue today

Edie and Gillies were hard at work on the shore at Rhue today, maintaining our newest beach clean station! Delighted to find that it has had loads of use already from hard working beach-cleaners, so we emptied that in a big bag and stashed it securely for later uplift in the boat. Then we lined the station with a new big bag and stocked it up with sacks and litter pickers. Sadly, there's plenty more cleaning to be done on that stretch of beach - hopefully this station will make it that wee bit easier for everyone to get involved in helping to save our seas.

#futureroutes SeaRoutes trips!

We’ve absolutely loved this project and we’ve got some exciting ideas for examining and presenting our findings - excellent work for the sorter days of winter. Thanks to everyone who has followed and supported us with this!

More pictures from Tuesday's Horse Island clean

More pictures from Tuesday's Horse Island clean. Quite a challenging tumble of rocks from which to untangle and haul nets and ropes. We got what we could but sadly there is still a lot there - we hope to return on a calm day with more people and set up some sort of relay to pass the stuff out... The driftwood will go on display down at The Bothy, the buoys went back to their boat the Bon Ami, and the rest went into the Fishing For Litter skip. Have we mentioned, we are very grateful to Ullapool Harbour Trust for hosting that skip! Without it, we'd really struggle to dispose of the waste we're hauling in.

And in the very last creel……….an OCTOPUS!!!

Our NatureScot #futureroutes SeaRoutes project has taught us so much about the incredible biodiversity of our local seas - to meet an octopus in the final creel was a massive treat. What a spectacular finale to what has been just a brilliant project throughout! 🐙 Thank you SO much to everyone who supports us and makes it possible to deliver these incredible learning experiences. 🐙
