Great weather for our all-access boat trips yesterday meant we got a couple runs out.

Great weather for our all-access boat trips yesterday meant we got a couple runs out. The first was crewed by Jamie and Hunter, who showed Maymie and Kate some of their favourite things to do out round the loch - lifting creels, sea eagle spotting, driving the boat, checking Seawilding Ailsa 's native oysters. Maymie and Kate even got a wee spin. Hoping this weather carries on as we'll be trying to get more people out to see the loch and what we're up to.

We took a look at a beach on Tanera Beag on Saturday

We took a look at a beach on Tanera Beag on Saturday that has long been a source of major concern for the amount of marine plastics gathering there. We gathered and bagged a lot with Cal Major - Ocean Advocate back in 2021 when she was doing her epic paddle round Scotland - you can see more on that here (episode 2): https://player.stv.tv/sum.../reelsoul-scotland-ocean-nation/ Conclusion: it's still pretty horrendous and steadily getting worse, sadly. We gathered in the stuff that can readily be put back into use and prioritised binging in the stuff for disposal (thanks Ullapool Harbour Trust!) that looks to be breaking down into microplastics quickest (polystyrene etc)... Hoping to get back out for a bigger clean asap.

A beautiful, still evening combined with spring high tide made it possible

beautiful, still evening combined with spring high tide made it possible to get access to a net that's been wedged into the rocks under the old White Tailed Sea Eagle nest site for a while, as well as a few other bits and pieces from along that incredible stretch of coastline. 🌅 Sometimes we do have to wait and pick our moment to get to spots like this, but it is always worth it and we're always keen to hear about other problem spots around the MPA - please let us know if there's any that you've spotted and would like to see cleared.

Another wee all-access trip out on Mada-Chuain this afternoon.

Another wee all-access trip out on Mada-Chuain this afternoon. Today we were joined by Barry from Lochbroom House in Ullapool, who was accompanied by Phoebe who works there. Barry has worked at sea in the past so was good to give him a wee trip out round the loch. Phoebe even managed a go at driving...... Let us know if you know anyone who might enjoy a trip out on the loch but doesn't get the chance via normal boat trips. And again, thanks to Tesco Ullapool and everyone who voted for us in the blue token scheme last year and has enabled us to cover fuel costs to do this, and The National Lottery Heritage Fund Scotland for ongoing funds.

Well done to the new Velvet Crab Pod for clearing 10kg of rubbish

Well done to the new Velvet Crab Pod for clearing 10kg of rubbish off the beach at Corry point after school on Friday! 👏💙💪 Thanks to Noel and our amazing boat Mada Chuain, were able to ferry it all straight across the Harbour to the Fishing For Litter skip for safe disposal. We try to learn as much as we can about the items we gather in - you can see from the pics that we find all sorts! (Thanks to OceanGives for identifying the sewage treatment disks - we'll be following up on that...) It was a fun afternoon - were also lucky to run into Heddle at the pier, who showed us how the prawn tubes fit together and answered the kids' questions about the prawns, lobsters and crabs he catches.

Pics from a remote beach clean and rubbish uplift on Fada on Tuesday.

Pics from a remote beach clean and rubbish uplift on Fada on Tuesday. Ropes and netting quite were badly tangled around the rocks, so it took quite a while to clear, but a very satisfying result! Thanks to Will at Kayak Summer Isles for securing other plastic items above the tideline so we could get in and uplift on Tuesday's incredible calm conditions... Thanks also to Fishing For Litter for Ullapool Harbour Trust for providing facilities for safe disposal of another 17kg of marine litter...

A really special accessible boat trip Tuesday morning with Madeleine, Izzy and dolphin in the loch!!

A really special accessible boat trip Tuesday morning with Madeleine, Izzy and dolphin in the loch!!

A really special accessible boat trip Tuesday morning with Madeleine, Izzy and dolphin in the loch!! 🐬👌💙 Thanks to Carl Mackay for sending us an alert first thing of two wee pods of common dolphin headed into the loch, meaning we could get folk out promptly to see them on what was a remarkably beautiful and still day....magical stuff made possible by the unique design of our lovely PionerMulti, Mada Chuain. 🐬👌💙 Thanks to everyone who put a token in the box at Tesco Ullapool supporting our accessible boat trips! And thanks to #NationalLotteryPlayers. We couldn't do this without that support.
