SMOKERS in a Wester Ross village are being quizzed in a quirky poll as to whether they plan giving up cigarettes. And regardless of whether they are, simply answering 'yes' or 'no' is playing a part protecting the environment and preventing toxic butts ending up in the sea.
As previously reported, campaigning group Ullapool Sea Savers adopted a clever way of raising awareness of the issue while doing their bit to prevent damage to the marine environment.
They offer cigarette bins to businesses to allow smokers to cast a 'vote' on a question depending on which side they discard the butt on.
The Ceilidh Place, one of the best known venues in the Highlands, is using its bin to invite a 'yes' or 'no' answer to the statement: 'I will stop smoking soon, I promise!'
